Not all flowers have a visual appeal that stands out at night. A lot of them start shutting down as soon as temperatures begin to drop.

Be that as it may, it is always fun having night hangouts in the garden once in a while, and this is where you will need some night-blooming plants to light up the place.

1. MoonFlower 'Ipomoea alba.'

Like most night-blooming flowers, moonflowers have large white flowers (pink sometimes).

These flowers open up in the evening and stay that way until daybreak. It is usually different on very cloudy days. Then, they remain open till much later.

MoonFlower is fast growing perennial plant. You can have them established in no time when you plant in moist soil and a place where they can enjoy full sun or partial sun at the very least.

2. Datura

Datura is sometimes referred to as the poisonous version of moonflowers. Some others know it to be the devil's trumpet because of its big trumpet-shaped leaves.

Daturas are night-blooming annual plants. They make your garden colorful with their beautiful colors of purple, yellow, white, and pink.

The plant can attain an overall height of about 6ft. However, care should be taken to keep this plant away from the reach of children and animals as Datura's are highly toxic and has been used as a form of poison by people in certain cultures.

3. Night Phlox 'Zaluzianskya capensis'

The night Phlox does not just make your gardens beautiful at night; they also leave them smelling sweet because of their honey-almond vanilla-like fragrance.

Night Phlox grows best in flower beds or containers, lighting up your space with bright colors of white, pink and purple, with some rare reddish-maroon ones.

Night Phlox, also known as Midnight candy, prefer full sun or partial shade at least. Their bloom season is usually summer through fall.

4. Night-scented orchid (Epidendrum nocturnum)

They are popular in countries like Mexico, South America, West Indies, etc., but can grow and thrive anywhere else as long as you have them fully established with the proper care routine.

This plant is not one to rely on pollinators for propagation's sake. As a result, you will find its yellow and white flowers open intermittently, or they don't at all.

5. Four O'Clock (Mirabilis Jalapa)

This plant has some remarkable features that you cannot find in others.

Did you know that just one four O'Clock plant can produce multiple flower colors? You will find a single plant with two, three, or more colors.

They are perfect night-blooming plants, brightening up your space with beautiful colors of white, yellow, magenta, pink, red, etc.

6. Evening Stock (Matthiola Longipetala)

The evening stock is beautiful, but hardy white and purple flowers are always at their best at night. During the day, the flowers look shriveled, but they regain their robustness as soon as night comes.

Evening stocks are annuals that are majorly grown in North America.

7. Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa)

The tuberose gives you a two-in-one advantage. They are beautiful night-blooming flowers with a mind-blowing fragrance. Flowers are often used in the production of perfumes.

Tuberose is perennial that is best grown from bulbs in a warm climate where they can enjoy full sun.

You will find long spikes with bright white flowers in mid to late summer, sparkling at night and brightening your entire garden.

8. Casa Blanca Lily (Lilum 'Casa Blanca')

The Casa Blanca Lily has big bright white flowers that make for a lovely night garden.

Caution should be taken, though, to keep them out of the reach of pets as they are toxic to dogs and cats.

9. Nicotiana

The beauty of this night-blooming plant is that they speedily germinate.

They fall into the genus of plants used in the production of cigarettes, but the particular variant is unlikely to be found for purchase at garden centers.

They bloom beautifully at night in colors of pink, white, green, or red, releasing a sweet fragrance that attracts hummingbirds and other pollinators.

10. Night-blooming Jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum)

Both the Nicotiana and the night-blooming Jasmine belong to the Solanaceae family. They are pretty different from the Jasmines found in most gardens.

Night-blooming Jasmines have beautiful white flowers with streaks of green that add quite a beauty to your gardens at night plus; they have such a strong sweet fragrance.

Like every plant from the Solanaceae household, these plants are toxic too, and the fragrance might just come off too strong for certain people.

11. Night Gladiolus (Gladiolus tristis)

Night Gladiolus have gracious light yellow flowers that bloom at night. The flowers are so radiant that it seems almost unbelievable that they are highly toxic.

All things being equal, these plants will bloom in late spring through to mid-summer. They will also attain an overall height of about 4ft.

For best results, get rich and well-draining soil for this plant and see to regular irrigation—place plants to grow under full sun to get them adequately established.

12. Brugmansia

Also known as Angel's trumpet but not to be confused with devil's trumpet. Differentiate them easily by their physical attribute. While the devil's trumpet is a leafy plant with upright blooms, Angel's trumpet can be likened to a shrub with flowers tilting below.

This plant is easy to grow in gardening zones 8-9.

Brugmansias are toxic to both animals and pets.

13. Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)

Key features of this plant are quick-to-bloom openings that give you a pretty thrilling show at night while staying open till noon the next day and long blooming periods from late spring to late summer.

This plant is native to North America. Different parts of the plant are known to edible and often used as ingredients in the making of primrose oil.

When they bloom, their fragrance drags in bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

14. Japanese Wisteria

You are good to go with this plant as long as you get the ones in bloom already. Otherwise, you might have to wait for several years for the lilac or white flowers that signify their color.

Japanese Wisterias are perennials, hardy to zone 5.

15. Gardenia Augusta

With the Gardenia Augusta, your space smells beautiful during the day and even more heavenly at night.

These perennials are better stationed on walkways for their sweet-smelling fragrance to rent the atmosphere at night.

16. Chocolate Daisy (Berlandiera Lyrata)

The Chocolate Daisy lights up your garden at night with its bright yellow flowers. This perennial plant belongs to the sunflower family native to South Western North America.

They can survive hot/dry climates but will bloom in cool climates from spring until the first frost.

Chocolate Daisy appreciates being planted in dry-medium well-draining soil and placed under full sun.

They are hardy in zones 4 - 0.

17. Foamflower (Tiarella cordifolia)

Foamflowers are capable of illuminating garden paths, making them a pretty showy plant for night walks.

These plants spread sporadically and would make excellent ground cover plants. They grow just up to 12 inches tall and 2ft wide only.

Foamflowers thrive better in rich organic soils and prefer part shade to full shade. They are hardy in zones 4-9.

18. Jimsonweed (Datura wrightii)

Jimsonweed is a member of the nightshade family. Key features of this plant include an impressive 6 feet height and width, highly drought tolerant, funnel-shaped white flowers, and long blooming from March till November.

Jimsonweed is also known as a thorn apple. They thrive best in well-draining sandy soils under full sun to partial shade. You will find them hardy in zones 8-12.

19. Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens)

These are delicate deciduous shrubs native to the US.

They spot little white flowers in flat clusters that shine under the moon's reflection.

This plant can attain an overall height of 5 feet; they thrive best in well-draining soil that is a little acidic with partial sun exposure.

Smooth Hydrangeas are hardy in zones 3-9.

20. Ten-petal Blazing Star (Mentzelia decapitate)

Your first thought when you see this plant in its first year is how rough they look, but upon a closer look, you'll realize how nicely these seemingly coarse leaves look in a beautiful rosette.

Its name is derived from the ten petals they exhibit in their second year when their large pointed white stems open up.

A well-draining soil is excellent for this plant with total sun exposure. They bloom from midsummer through to fall and are hardy in zones 3-9.

21. Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum)

This plant measuring about 6 inches in height, blooms only at night. They like indirect sun or shade and thrive in the well-draining cactus mix. They are hardy in zones 10-11.

22. Brahma Kamal (Saussurea obvallata)

We present to you the most coveted for the king of Himalayan flowers. They bloom immensely after dusk in hilly Himalayas, China, etc.

As soon as they open up at night, they fill the whole place with their strong fragrance.

23. Dragon fruit flower (Hylocereus undatus)

This cactus-like flower will open up just once a year and bloom from July to October, giving the place a touch of bright white to pink shade.

24. Water Lily (Red Flare)
