They can be found growing on their own; this tells you that they are rugged and would do well without any attention from you.

So what is so special about this flower?

Since the flower can grow anywhere it likes, there is no special care or requirement for it to thrive. Although, it will most prefer sandy and dry soil.

The plant is healthy. Having strong medicinal value, you are sure that it isn’t poisonous to animals and humans.


3. Maltese cross (Silene chalcedonica)

The name of the flowers probably came from the fact that the flower takes the shape of a Maltese cross. It is a symbol adopted by the Knights of Malta.

The common names associated with this plant include Maltese cross, London pride, Jerusalem cross.

The typical plant can grow as tall as 4 feet and spread up to 2 feet wide. The cluster of beautiful flowers is seen to appear from early to mid-summer, producing red, pink, or white flowers depending on the species.

Maltese cross prefers full sun. The brighter the spot it is grown, the fuller the flowers produced. When grown in a shady area, it becomes leggy and long.


4. Mandevilla (Mandevilla sanderi)

Growing Mandevilla plant in your patio or garden will give it beauty and color. If you have seen it in its full bloom, you would appreciate the full pinkish flower that tends to overshadow the leaves and foliage parts.

If you are considering cultivating this shrub, be sure to provide sandy and well-drained soil enriched with organic materials.

One thing about this plant is that they are delicate. This is where it may be demanding especially in choosing the best location for it.

Mandevilla hates full sunlight. They can even get burnt when exposed. It is thus necessary to plant in a partially shaded area.

They bloom within a week in hot weather, and they could last for over 8 weeks.

Apart from the beautiful golden flowers produced by this plant, some of the species are edible. Note that not all marigolds are edible, but species like calendula are.

For example, petals of Calendula add color and a spicy tang to salads and other summer dishes.


6. Mayflower (Epigaea repens)

Mayflower is a rare flowering plant because of how and where it prefers to grow. This plant grows on a specific type of fungus that nourishes the roots.

Unfortunately, because of the environment that they thrive in best, and the destruction of their habitat, they are almost going extinct.

Because of these, removals of Mayflowers are prohibited in some states. If you are lucky to see it growing anywhere, do not remove them.

Mayflower produces clusters of sweet-smelling pink or white blooms. Because most times they are found growing on their own, it indicates that they can flourish without much attention.

Typically, if you intend to grow this plant, just provide moist soil and a partially shaded area. Light mulching may be required to keep the roots moist and cool.


7. Morning Glory (Ipomoea indica)

Morning glory is a general name for a plant consisting of over 1,000 species of flowering plants in the family Convolvulaceae.

One important thing to know about these plants is that they need full sun to bloom at their best.

All species of morning glory produce funnel-shaped flowers of different colors including white, red, blue, purple, and yellow.

Expect to see the plant bloom from May through September. They open up in the morning and close in the afternoon or close of the day.

Growing morning glory is easy. Once you can provide all the requirements, it will bloom effortlessly.
