You have some of your favorite indoor plants in philodendrons, including the attractive jungle boogie and Xanadu. They are great plants for your home or office and are easy maintenance plants.

The philodendron jungle boogie starts small, with immature leaves with a wavy, serrated edge; hence, the name, Philodendron, is narrow. While the Xanadu possesses green leathery leaves that can grow as large as 16 to 18 inches long and 7 to 14 inches wide, it is beneficial as an under-planting, where it will clump and cluster around taller species.

In this post, we compared Philodendron Jungle Boogie Vs Xanadu to know their key differences and similarities.

Let’s quickly look at it!

What is Philodendron Jungle Boogie?

The name, Philodendron jungle boogie, was coined following its growing zig-zag habit, as if it is dancing to and fro as its vines grow longer. Other names for this plant include, Philodendron narrow and Tiger Tooth Philodendron, similar to Philodendron Silver.

It was a plant mainly made for garden lovers who have the hunger to build their jungles. The jungle boogie starts small, producing immature leaves with a wavy, serrated edge that comes into an excellent point.

As it grows, its leaves become more extensive and change their shape slightly while the serrated edge becomes more defined.

Part of the Araceae family, the jungle boogie is a highly famous and easy to grow and maintenance philodendron variety. It has lovely long narrow green, heavily serrated edged leaves that exude exotic jungle vibes.

What is Philodendron Xanadu?

Philodendron Xanadu, also known as Philodendron "Winterbourn," is a large, compact easy-to-grow plant. It grows exceptionally well in South-East Queensland, thrives on only natural rainfall if it must.

It is often a tight growing plant with little or no pest and disease problems; hence, making it an exceptionally low-maintenance plant.

Xanadu was developed in the late 1980s from the Tree Philodendron (Philodendron Selloum) and was given the name "Winterbourn."

In Australia, its trademark name was given as Xanadu, and the name has remained like that ever since. It can be utilized as a low- or mid-ground planting in subtropical gardens.

Xanadu philodendron or the 'Winterbourn' plant has a tropical pedigree that survives indoors and in warm-weather landscapes.

Unlike other philodendrons varieties, they grow in clumps rather than climbing vines. Xanadu philodendron can grow up to a height of 2 to 4 ft. with a width of 3 to 5 feet. Each shiny, green, leathery leaf has 15-20 distinct lobes.

This plant is pretty easy to grow and increases in elegance as it matures. It's also used a lot as a verge plant or on round-about and roadsides.

Common to see it filling large planters or pots in alfresco dining areas and the like. Unlike many philodendrons, the Xanadu is an upright plant, not a climber or vine.

Differences Between Philodendron Jungle Boogie and Xanadu

Philodendron Jungle Boogie Vs Xanadu

Firstly, Philodendron Jungle Boogie plants prefer very well-draining soil and prefer to have dry conditions.

Regular potting mix with sand works well for plants potted in containers; otherwise, a cactus potting mix would work. The cactus potting mix already has sand and other ingredients to encourage drainage.

Whereas for Xanadu plants, you need to water it thoroughly until the water drains out the drip holes underneath the pot, and then allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out before watering again.

Leaves turn yellow if the soil stays too wet. A Xanadu grows more slowly in the winter and requires less water.

Secondly, Jungle Boogie is dark green and is not a variegated plant. In contrast, Xanadu is a variegated variety, where new growth comes from bright green to yellow, giving the plant dimension and color.

Again, the Jungle Boogie has long, narrow saw-toothed leaves with distinctive, deep serration all along the leaf edges.

Leaves can reach 2-3' in length, whereas the Xanadu can reach a height of 2 to 4 feet with a width of 3 to 5 feet, while each of its shiny, green, leathery leaves has 15-20 distinct lobes.

Despite their differences, both the Jungle Boogie and Xanadu share some striking features, some of which are; both are tropical plants and Tender Perennials.

They both thrive under bright, diffused light. Like most other tropical plants, they do better when 4 feet away from the South and East.

They also seem to enjoy the morning sun and more dappled or diffused afternoon sun. Since they are both understory plants, if they happen to witness or face a severe or constant exposure to the direct afternoon sun, it will scorch the plants.

They can survive less light but thrive best in bright indirect lighting. (Zone 10-11, Sun to Partial Shade, Light Shade).

In terms of humidity, just like most philodendrons, both the Jungle Boogie and Xanadu cannot survive excessive cold or heat.

The plants are prone to suffer from longtime exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Therefore, the perfect temperature for both is that of average indoor.

What's Better About Philodendron Jungle Boogie?

The Philodendron Jungle Boogie plants are better in the low light conditions indoors. Living with just fluorescent light makes them ideal for office buildings and apartments (mind you, excessive sunlight can cause browning).

It also provides a moss pole for additional support as the plant grows. Therefore, best to attach aerial roots to the moss pole as they develop. Jungle Boogie features an exotic appeal wherever you plant them.

What's Better About Philodendron Xanadu?

Jungle Boogie variety has several unique features, but the best of the lot is that the older it grows, the better and more attractive it looks.

That is why we have classified it as one of the recommended indoor and garden plants for garden lovers. Occasionally grown as an indoor plant, Xanadu thrives best under trees or in crowded plantings.
